The release of the second season of the Netflix series ‘Hellbound’ has further heightened fans’ expectations and curiosity. Director Yeon SangHo stated that he aimed to stimulate viewers’ imaginations with unresolved mysteries in this season as well.
‘Hellbound Season 2’ portrays the resurrection of Chairman Jeong JinSoo and Park JeongJa amid a chaotic world, and the conflict between the New Truth Society and the Arrowhead surrounding them. While the first season dealt with people’s reactions to supernatural phenomena, this season focuses on the ideological clash between different groups. Director Yeon explained that he intended to metaphorically express real-world issues and stories through this work.
Director Yeon emphasized, “The core of this work is to have people discuss the story as humans after viewing,” and he added that he concentrated on the unexplained mysteries and the essence of emotions, characteristic of the cosmic horror genre. He also expressed his hope that the worldview of ‘Hellbound’ would expand like ‘Gundam’ or ‘Star Wars.’
Beyond ‘Hellbound,’ he has consistently explored dystopian worlds in works like ‘Train to Busan,’ ‘JUNG_E,’ and ‘Parasyte: The Grey,’ aiming to highlight humanism through these creations. Regarding the varied evaluations, he expressed a positive outlook, saying, “I am happy that many stories are being exchanged.”
