K-Pop idols are known for being trendsetters when it comes to fashion, music, and many other things. The latest trend in the K-Pop world is none other than a pose to bring some hip energy to your selfies.

You may have noticed that many idols are doing what looks like an upside-down/inside-out peace sign in their selfies. This is called the 'gyaru peace' (๊ฐธ๋ฃจํ”ผ์Šค in Korean) sign.

The idol being credited for starting the trend is rookie girl group member IVE's Rei.

But where does it originally come from?

The trend originally comes from Japan. The term 'gyaru' supposedly originates from the Japanese pronunciation of the English slang for 'gal'.

Gyaru is one of the most famous Japanese fashion subcultures. It consists of styling that includes bold eye makeup, tanning, bold hairstyles, etc. There are several categories under this subculture, too.

The gyaru peace sign is one of the signature peace signs that is used among people who belong to the subculture. It doesn't really have a specific meaning, however, it is a significant trend.

It became a trend in Korea after IVE's Rei (who is Japanese) posted multiple selfies of herself doing the pose and introducing her members to it, too.

Here she is pictured with fellow IVE member Liz.

How do you do the pose? You simply make a peace sign with your hands and then extend your arm and twist your hands with your palmside facing upwards. You can do the pose with one or two hands.

Many idols have since picked up the pose and posted pictures of themselves following this new trend.

Some of the idols we have seen doing the pose include...
