On the afternoon of the 8th, the production presentation for the much-anticipated Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Fiery Priest 2’ was held at the SBS headquarters in Mokdong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. This drama is a thrilling crime investigation set in Busan, featuring Kim HaeIl (played by Kim NamGil) who is a priest by day and a crime boss by night. The new season particularly raises anticipation by depicting a confrontation with the country’s largest drug cartel.
Under the cheerful hosting of Park KyungRim, the event was graced by the presence of director Park BoRam and the main cast including Kim NamGil, Lee HaNee, Kim SungKyun, Sung Joon, Seo HyunWoo, and Kim HyungSeo (BIBI). ‘The Fiery Priest 1’, which aired in 2019, was hugely popular, recording a peak viewership rating of 24%, and thus the interest in this season is also intense.
When asked about his feelings on returning as Kim HaeIl after a long time, Kim NamGil expressed, “I’m happy to meet again through this season” and added, “Rather than being sure if Season 2 will do better, I had a strong belief that the time spent together would be enjoyable and that we could convey that joy to the viewers.” He also shared his thoughts on the comedic points from Season 1, saying, “In Season 2, the ensemble is already established, so I was able to portray Kim HaeIl’s character with more confidence.”
Particularly, when asked if he’s become angrier since ‘The Fiery Priest’, he humorously replied, “The anger keeps burning,” which raised expectations on how this wit will be demonstrated in the drama.
