The KBS epic drama “Goryeo Khitan War” captured the hearts of viewers once again with the episode aired on the 3rd. In the 30th episode, the news that Kang Gam-chan (played by Choi Soo-jong), leading a 200,000-strong army, had defeated the Khitan’s first army led by Upiลกil, reached Hyeonjong (played by Kim DongJun). The unpredictable actions of Sobeopap (played by Kim Jun-bae), who marched recklessly towards Gaegyeong, provided a breathtaking impact to the viewers.
Kang Gam-chan started preparations for war, set up a camp east of Hwanghwa-jin, and ordered Kang Min-cheom (played by Lee Cheol-min) to block the Khitan forces. Contrary to Sobeopap’s expectations, the meticulous preparations and strategies of the Goryeo forces bewildered the Khitan army and turned the tide of war. Under Kang Gam-chan’s tactics, the Goryeo forces surrounded and annihilated the Khitan army, achieving victory.
The successful outcome of the battle delighted Hyeonjong, and the scene where Sobeopap devises a new strategy towards Gaegyeong raised expectations for the next episode. The chase between the Goryeo and Khitan forces provided the audience with thrilling moments.
At the end of the broadcast, Hyeonjong’s resolution to protect Gaegyeong and his solidarity with the people left a touching afterglow. Sobeopap’s plan to attack Gaegyeong and Goryeo’s counter-strategy sparked curiosity about future developments.
The 30th episode’s viewership reached 12.9% (provided by Nielsen Korea, nationwide households), securing the number one spot in weekend dramas for three consecutive weeks. The peak viewership rate soared to 14.2%, proving the drama’s popularity.
