On the 28th, at a press conference held at Space Share Samsung Station Center in Gangnam, Seoul, the five members of the girl group NewJeans announced the termination of their exclusive contract, drawing significant attention. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein revealed that they would be ending their contracts with ADOR and HYBE and will be pursuing independent activities.
The members claimed that ADOR failed to fulfill its contractual obligations, stating that they made a final request for correction on November 13th, which was rejected by ADOR, with no resolution achieved. They emphasized that ADOR’s evasion and excuses continued despite multiple correction requests. The five members declared that they are notifying the termination of the contract due to ADOR’s breach of contractual obligations and failure to take action during the correction request period.
The termination notice will take effect as soon as it reaches ADOR on November 29, 2024, allowing the members of NewJeans to pursue activities freely. Regarding the penalty issue, they stated that they are not obligated to compensate since the breach of obligation was on ADOR’s part.
Despite the termination notice, they plan to faithfully carry out scheduled activities and expressed that maintaining a relationship with ADOR, which failed to fulfill its duty to protect its artists, caused them severe mental distress. With a commitment to delivering great music, they asked for support and interest in their future activities.
Anticipation is growing among fans and the industry about what NewJeans will showcase through their new activities. Stay tuned for further updates on their future endeavors.
