The global sensation ‘Squid Game’ from Netflix is returning with season 2. This season promises a larger scale and more intense settings, raising anticipation among fans. On the 11th, Netflix revealed changes for season 2 through director Hwang DongHyuk and art director Chae KyungSun. Particularly, the maze corridors leading to the game locations and the communal living spaces for participants have been expanded, drawing attention.
One of the most astonishing elements from the first season, the massive set, has been further expanded this season. Art director Chae KyungSun explained, “The area of the maze corridors has increased by about 30 pyeong (approximately 100㎡) from season 1, reaching 120 pyeong (approximately 397㎡), and the height has also increased to 11 meters.” Additionally, the height of the communal living space has also been raised from 11 meters in season 1 to 13 meters. New passages have been added to the maze corridors, where various conflicts and events are expected to unfold.
This season introduces a voting system where participants can choose between ‘O’ and ‘X’ after each round of the game. Director Hwang commented, “Reflecting generational, gender, and class conflicts, we satirically express social conflicts through the process of participants deciding whether to stop the game.”
While most characters died in season 1, season 2 will introduce more charming figures. Director Hwang stated, “The process of Seong GiHun achieving his goals with new people is the main content of this season,” adding that “younger participants will appear more than in season 1.”
Having set the record for the most viewing hours in Netflix’s history in 2021, ‘Squid Game’ is ready to set a new record with season 2 on the 26th of next month. Existing actors like Lee JungJae, Lee ByungHun, and Gong Yoo are joined by new faces such as Yim SiWan and Kang HaNeul, heightening fans’ expectations. With anticipation growing for the upcoming plot of ‘Squid Game 2’, viewers are eager to see what astonishing stories will unfold.
