In the 253rd episode of tvN’s variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block’, Kwon SoA, an announcer who won the ‘Space Out’ contest held last May, appeared to share her unique story.
Regarding her motivation to participate in the contest, Kwon SoA explained, “As a freelance announcer, I thought winning on the 10th anniversary of the contest would help me gain more recognition, and I wanted to promote the purpose of the contest worldwide since I can speak four languages.” She added, “I was confident in my ability to space out, and to win the competition, you need to measure your heart rate every 15 minutes and it should be stable or decreasing.” Additionally, she surprised everyone by revealing that the prize for winning was “0 won. It’s about gaining honor,” and she only received a trophy.
Kwon SoA, a 2.5th generation Korean born in Germany, revealed that she speaks German like her native language, learned Korean, English, and French in school, and also picked up some Spanish and Latin. She shared an anecdote about having to pay 1 mark whenever she spoke German at home and how they would go out to eat with the collected money. She said, “Although I am working as an English announcer, I had to use a lot of Korean for international events. I didn’t want to hear that my Korean is weak because I lived abroad, so I studied hard,” revealing the secret to her current proficiency and capturing interest.
