Through the recent events of military exemption for BamBam and NCT‘s Ten, Thailand’s military system has been receiving attention.
It is known that Thailand enforces compulsory military service for men aged 18 and above. If they were declared physically fit for military service, they would have to go through a round of lottery whereby pulling out a black ball would mean exemption and a red ball for enlistment. In addition, the lottery takes place at the beginning of April annually.
This is not the first time it had happened in the K-Pop industry as 2PM‘s Nichkhun had also been through the same process. In 2009, Nichkhun flew back to Thailand for the lottery but before it was his turn, the quota was filled up too. On April 1st, Ten was also exempted due to past injury in his knee.
