The K-Pop scene is ever-evolving in terms of music and its artists. K-Pop has been around since the 1990's and fans often distinguish its various eras by classifying them through generations. Currently the 4th and 3rd generations of K-Pop are most prominent with groups and artists from the 1st and 2nd generation who are also active.
Many groups in the first couple of generations have either disbanded or the members have stayed together but have simply left their companies to pursue solo ventures. In this case, K-Pop fans are often sad at the prospect of not being able to see their favorite artists together as often.
However, sometimes these groups get back together for a reunion, proving a special treat for fans.
This year has been an especially great year for 2nd generation girl groups. Here are four 2nd generation girl groups who have or will have reunions this year.
1. 2NE1
2NE1 reunited on stage for the first time in almost 7 years since their last performance. They made a surprise performance at the 2022 Coachella, triggering adoring screams from the crowd and serving a timeless performance.
2. Girls' Generation
Girls' Generation gave fans the best gift as they had a full comeback in honor of their 15th debut anniversary. The reunion/comeback was topped off by the fact that their title song emphasized the message that they are indeed 'FOREVER 1'.
3. SISTAR
SISTAR had a special reunion for the first time since their disband in 2017. The group performed a nostalgic medley of some of their hit songs on "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook". The performance was truly SISTAR-class, reminding everybody of their performance power.
4. KARA
KARA is yet another group that will be treating fans with a music release for their 15th debut anniversary. It was recently announced that they will have a reunion for the first time in 7 years and many fans are excited to see it.
Many have been loving seeing these groups get back together. Do you have any groups, regardless of generation, that you would like to see have a reunion soon? Let us know in the comments.
