TRI.BE, London Brixton Jamm, 11 June 2024
It is very difficult to get K-Pop fans excited anymore – but the K-Pop girl group TRI.BE has created a small but very loud and loyal bases in the UK. Starting out early in the evening, the six-member piece got their fans down to Brixton for a night full of singing, dancing, and playing along. Their songs, including traditional K-Pop along with Afrobeats, baile funk, dancehall, and Western pop have become staples in the K-Pop world, while their performances and dances have become viral several times.
The group is no rookie to performing live – having a lot of experience under their belts. Their fandom – TRUE – is also very dedicated and filled the venue slowly. Despite the small and intimate show, it was like being in a big arena, with people cheering and singing along to every single fanchant and lyric for the whole set, and a lot of fans casually talking to the girls in Korean. The venue and the intimacy of the show made it really easy to come closer to the girls as they performed and interacted with them in an organic way, highlighting the human side of the usually untouchable idols we see from far away.
The tour “True Diamond” had several stops in Europe, with London being the last one. As a result, the girls gave all their energy to please the crowd, and their efforts did not go unnoticed. Performing their famous hits ‘DOOM DOOM TA’ and ‘Loca’, along with the suiting fanchants ‘Vida Loca’. The universality of the group is well showcased through various intense – yet incredibly synchronized – choreographies and varied vocals that showcase each girl’s vocal color. Their music is also very unique – having been produced by one of K-Pop’s most reliable and well-known hitmakers S.Tiger (and who sadly passed away a few months ago).
The group therefore becomes very well-placed to merge together the East and West – with a lot of international backing and music influences, but with the cuteness and traditional K-Pop image of a Korean group.
The performances did not stop there, as the group then split into units and performed some covers, such as ‘Sweet Venom’ by ENHYPEN and ‘Midas Touch’ by KISS OF LIFE. The one that grabbed everyone’s attention – and received the loudest cheers – was SHINee TaeMin’s ‘Guilty’, during which the choreography was executed impeccably. The bubbly and happy character of the girls was present throughout the set, with a hint of subtle sexiness peppered in their performance.
Having the energy to perform all their songs back-to-back, the girls then went on to interact with their fans on a few challenges. Notably, one of their lucky fans was called on stage to perform with them the choreography of their newest single ‘Diamond’, a task that was aced and impressed the members and audience alike. In the meantime, all of us watching from underneath were mesmerized by the synchronicity of the group and the fast pace of the choreography. The members then proceeded to tell us how unique and memorable their experience was to tour all around Europe, their memories in London, and of course, an invitation to see them again when they come back. The latter was received with a lot of warmth, the crowd promising to come back when the girls fly over to the UK again. Finishing off their set, TRI.BE performed ‘WE ARE YOUNG’ followed by ‘Diamond’ and of course, ‘STAY TOGETHER’.
TRI.BE is a group that is very well-received by the audience and one that has a solid identity in K-Pop. Whilst the performance was in a small venue, there was not a single mistake made, with the girls being in sync and singing impeccably for most of the set. It is a group that should rightfully earn a higher spot within K-Pop and one that everyone should know about. Whilst their tour in Europe has now ended, we hope to catch them again soon.
