Balming Tiger, a Seoul-based collective hailing from Seoul, has released their latest single, ‘Kamehameha’ last September 21, and excitingly announced their debut album, “January Never Dies,” set to be released on October 19th.
Taking inspiration from the famous Asian ointment “Tiger Balm,” Balming Tiger proudly identifies as a “Multinational Alternative K-Pop band.” Their main creative vision is clear: to make a global impact and carve a distinctive lane for K-Pop. The collective strives to represent today’s younger generation, aiming to spread hyper-expressive Asian youth culture worldwide while drawing influences from a rich tapestry of global sources.
‘Kamehameha’ offers a lively and playful soundscape, paying homage to the Korean drinking game of the same name. It simulates the exhilarating, overconfident feeling of being heavily intoxicated. The track is produced by BJ wnjn and features vocals and melodies by sogumm. With its stripped-back composition, ‘Kamehameha’ adds another stylishly diverse piece to the collective’s extensive discography. The AI-inspired single artwork and surreal cinematic music video were crafted by Balming Tiger’s visual artist, ChanHee Hong (Seoul the Soloist).
This single marks the fourth release from their upcoming album, following the widescreen ‘SOS’ in April, the radiant ‘Trust Yourself’ in January, and ‘SEXY NUKIM’ in September 2022, featuring RM of the legendary K-Pop boy group BTS. The latter achieved record-breaking results, including reaching #1 on Billboard‘s “World Digital Song Sales” chart, with the music video surpassing 16 million views.
Balming Tiger comprises a talented ensemble, including performers like Omega Sapien, sogumm, BJ wnjn, and Mudd the Student, producers San Yawn and Unsinkable, video directors Jan’ Qui and Leesuho, DJ Abyss, visual artist ChanHee Hong, and writer Henson Hwang. Each artist brings a unique artistic identity and energy to the group, contributing to the creation of a distinct visual world.
Omega Sapien, a founding member and K-Pop and K-Rap sensation, released his solo EP “WUGA” via LuckyMe last year, featuring exciting collaborations with GRAMMY-nominated producer Baauer, NUXXE label head Sega Bodega, and Vernon of SEVENTEEN.
Balming Tiger also made waves at the iconic “SXSW Festival” in Austin earlier this year, co-presenting, curating, and headlining “Tiger Den,” SXSW’s first-ever all-Asian lineup, featuring artists like Shye (Singapore), Tohji (Japan), LรREN (S. Korea), Lunadira (Malaysia), and more.
To cap off the year, Balming Tiger is set to conclude their world tour in Bangkok, Thailand, at the “Maho Rasop Festival” on December 2nd.
