The master composer An ChiHaeng and the heavenly vocalist Kwon MiHee have once again teamed up, raising the expectations of music fans. Anta Eumban announced that they will release a collaboration album by the two artists on the 12th. The album includes a total of four tracks: “Gasado Jajakkoong,” “My Hometown Gasado,” “Jindo Pong Grandma,” and “Meditation Island Buldo.”
This album is a work showcased seven months after the two formed a mixed duet last April, expressing the beautiful scenery and charm of An ChiHaeng’s hometown, Jindo, through music. In particular, “Gasado Jajakkoong” sings about the beauty of the eight scenic spots of Gasado, with lyrics contributed by Lee JongHo, a native government official from the Jindo County Office and a fan of An ChiHaeng. “My Hometown Gasado” is a song that captures the resources and longing for Gasado.
Another included track, “Jindo Pong Grandma,” is themed around the legend of the Jindo sea path, known as the Korean version of the miracle of Moses, while “Meditation Island Buldo” sings about the mysterious rock formations resembling the Buddha and the thousand-year-old wooden pagoda in the shape of a monk’s bell. These songs are arranged by Jeong GiSong from the group N.EX.T, adding modern sensibilities such as swing jazz, rhythm and blues, and polka rhythm to traditional Korean music.
An ChiHaeng was the leader and guitarist of the legendary 1970s group sound Young Sound and is well-known as the producer and arranger of Cho YongPil’s “Come Back to Busan Port” album. Kwon MiHee grew up learning pansori and Namdo folk songs from the renowned singer Kim ChooJa since the age of nine and debuted in 2010 as a “heavenly vocalist,” establishing herself as a notable crossover singer.
This album raises anticipation on how the collaboration of these two masters will create new musical synergy. Fans are eagerly watching their musical journey, waiting for more musical news from them.
