From romance to comedies, and even thrillers, irrespective of the genre, these characters duly seized our attention and kept our eyes glued to our screens with a determination not to miss a millisecond of their engrossing and interesting stories.
We took a fun poll in both halves of 2022 asking our readers to vote for their favorite male characters. The results of those polls were curated and used to form our WINNER OF WINNERS list, in a bid to find out who was the ultimate best male character in 2022 K-Dramas.

Kang TaeMu - "Business Proposal"
Kang TaeMu was a character that was brought to our screen by the famous actor, Ahn HyoSeop. His incredible acting skills made everyone either root for Kang TaeMu, want to be like him, wished they were in the shoes of Shin HaRi (Kim SeJeong), or simply all of the above and more. Ahn HyoSeop truly made viewers connect with the story and persona of a man, a smart, talented, and responsible man, who sees his cool-like exterior swiftly change as he welcomed love into his heart. With 29,320 votes, his character was crowned the best in 2022 as he ranked 1st on the poll.
Looking back at the drama, perhaps there are so many reasons why viewers could see Kang TaeMu as the best male character in 2022 K-Dramas. And with this article we hope to project some of the key points that he displayed that made many take a keen liking to him.
1. He is a CEO with a sense of humor
In K-Drama land, especially in the rom-com genre, CEOs are often projected as individuals who despite their initial stern and cool-like exteriors are truly witty and hilarious, with expressions and reactions to various moments that makes their characters even more endearing. Kang TaeMu joins the list and perhaps, if there were to be a ranking, he would be at the top of it. From his expressive and entertaining tiki-taka banter with his Grandfather to his interactions with both Shin HaRi and Cha SungHoon (Kim MinGue), you get a true sense of his character and how regardless of his cold expressions upon first meeting, he is truly laid-back and funny when he wants to be.
2. He is the definition of boyfriend material
The term "young, rich, and handsome" comes to mind when describing Kang TaeMu as he truly is the visual representation of the phrase. Right from the start of the series, we see that Kang TaeMu would spare no expense to get what he wants and could even go as far as getting into a contract with a stranger so he could stop the persistent nagging of his Grandfather. And at other times he showed off his power and affluence in ways that were truly heartwarming and considerate.
Like the scene where he protected both Shin HaRi and Jin YoungSeo from the pervert, by giving him a swift taste of justice. And another instance where he proved to be the ultimate boyfriend material by pretending to be Shin HaRi's boyfriend in front of her friends and treating them to a great time. His wealth and position may have been part of his charms but his selfless and thoughtful attitude was perhaps the most attractive point he possessed.
3. A friend like no other
One of the appealing points of the drama "Business Proposal" was the blossoming friendship among its main cast. With respect to this, the friendship between Kang TaeMu and Cha SungHoon was simply beautiful. Oftentimes in K-Dramas, there is a play of the friends turned enemies trope, especially with individuals of different statuses, with one being superior to the other. Somehow, this often leads to negative feelings of jealousy and hatred arising between them.
While there is a clear difference in the societal standing and position of the two friends, we see that that is just in title alone as in reality, they treat each other as what they truly are, friends. Sharing in each other's struggles and happiness, their drama-free friendship is one that many viewers undoubtedly enjoyed throughout the course of the series.
Ahn HyoSeop's portrayal of this character is truly commendable and a key reason why Kang TaeMu is duly loved by many. Following the success of the drama, his duly skyrocketed and he became one of the most followed Korean actors on Instagram. We once again congratulate both the talented actor and fans of the drama for winning this vote.
