The album quickly became a million-seller upon release, marking aespa’s fifth consecutive million-seller achievement. This success has been consistent since their second mini-album ‘Girls,’ demonstrating aespa’s continuous growth and musical evolution.
On the 8th, SM Entertainment announced that ‘Whiplash’ recorded sales of 1.02 million copies on the Circle Chart, earning their fifth million-seller title. The album includes a title track that challenges the EDM-based techno genre for the first time, offering a fresh shock to the fans. It also features diverse tracks, including the hip-hop dance song ‘Kill It.’
‘Whiplash’ debuted at 53rd on Spotify on its release day, achieving the highest entry ranking among K-pop girl group songs released in 2024. Additionally, it successfully entered the Billboard World Albums, Global 200, and Billboard 200 charts, and topped the iTunes Top Albums chart in 24 regions. It also reached number one on various music platforms in China, receiving double platinum certification on QQ Music.
aespa also set a new record on the Melon weekly chart, maintaining the number one spot for 15 consecutive weeks with their September release ‘Supernova,’ the longest period in Melon’s history. These achievements showcase aespa’s ongoing journey in creating new history as a K-pop girl group.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the release of ‘Whiplash,’ aespa operated a pop-up store titled ‘aespa Week – #Whiplash Mood’ in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
