The new Korean drama ‘Fine Country Bumpkins,’ expected to set a new milestone in Korean television, will be released on Disney+ next year. This series is based on the comic of the same name by Yoon TaeHo, known for ‘Misaeng’ and ‘Inside Men,’ and tells the story of characters surrounding a treasure buried off the coast of Shinan in the 1970s.
On the 21st, at the ‘Disney Content Showcase APAC 2024’ held in Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, lead actors Ryu SeungRyong, Lim SooJung, Yang SeJong, and director Kang YoonSung attended, raising expectations for the work. The meeting of Ryu SeungRyong, who captivated global viewers with ‘Moving,’ and director Kang YoonSung, who led the success of ‘Big Bet,’ is garnering significant attention from fans.
Ryu SeungRyong shared an episode where he directly contacted director Kang YoonSung via Facebook message to express his interest in participating in the project. He humorously shared, “Not long after contacting Director Kang, I received an offer to join ‘Fine’,” to which Director Kang responded, “It felt like destiny that we were working on a project together.”
Additionally, both expressed their gratitude towards Disney+. Ryu SeungRyong mentioned, “A Disney representative emphasized the importance of stories and advised us to look forward to upcoming Korean projects next year,” while Director Kang YoonSung expressed his appreciation, stating, “Disney+ has guaranteed creative freedom since we produced ‘Big Bet’.”
Director Kang YoonSung explained that while maintaining the charm of the original work, he filled in the gaps of the story with new characters and narratives, expressing his desire to make the characters feel truly alive. He added, “I tried to maximize the story’s strength of the original work.”
