Recently, EDAM Entertainment, the agency representing singer and actress IU, has once again emphasized its strong legal action against malicious commenters. The agency released the status of criminal complaints for 2023-2024, received from their legal representative, Shinwon Law Firm, and expressed a firm stance against malicious acts directed at the artist.
To date, over 180 individuals have been identified as defendants, with some having already received fines or suspended prosecution. Notably, an individual who committed defamation, sexual harassment, and death threats against IU in the form of cyberbullying faced a proposed fine of 3 million won, but the defendant appealed, and the results of the formal trial are awaited. This case clearly demonstrates the agency’s firm commitment to legal action.
Additionally, the agency reported that it had obtained the personal information of those who defamed IU by raising baseless plagiarism accusations around April to May. Among them is a person presumed to be a middle school classmate of IU, which adds to the seriousness of the situation. In this context, the agency also announced plans for further legal actions against ongoing harassment.
The police investigation into those who spread false rumors about IU has been completed, and the suspects have been forwarded to the prosecution, awaiting disposition. The agency made it clear that there will be no settlements or leniency for any illegal activities, including this incident, and emphasized its intention to continue strong responses.
EDAM Entertainment plans to maintain stringent monitoring and evidence collection to protect the honor and personal rights of the artist, IU, and respond firmly to illegal activities. They urged fans and the general public to cease illegal activities on online platforms and reiterated their commitment to protecting the artist through strong legal measures. The ongoing legal proceedings are expected to attract significant public attention.
