Last year, Studio&NEW, which captivated viewers at home and worldwide with ‘Moving’ and ‘Doctor Cha,’ has now produced dramas that have topped the most-watched series lists on Netflix and Disney+.
SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Good Partner,’ which aired its first episode last week, has won viewers’ hearts with the cold yet passionate ‘womance’ chemistry and relatable episodes between veteran star lawyer Cha EunKyung (played by Jang NaRa) and rookie lawyer Han YuRi (played by Nam JiHyun). The viewership rating soared to a peak of 11.1% (provided by Nielsen Korea, based on the metropolitan area) in just two episodes, securing the top spot in the same time slot and the overall mini-series for the week.
The dynamic story of divorce lawyers has also received a hot response from viewers on OTT platforms, making ‘Good Partner’ the most-watched series among domestic Netflix viewers as of the 16th. The drama’s script is personally penned by current divorce lawyer Choi YuNa, and it aims to highlight that divorce can be a new beginning rather than a stigma through realistic and diverse episodes.
Meanwhile, Disney+ original series ‘Red Swan,’ released on the 3rd, has made a significant impact in Asia as a ‘K-spicy’ series. Featuring action, mystery thriller, and melodrama, this drama has maintained the top spot in the Disney+ South Korea TOP 10 TV shows category on the global OTT ranking site Flix Patrol for nine consecutive days as of the 16th. It also remains in the top five rankings in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
‘Red Swan’ is a fatal scandal drama about WanSoo (played by Kim HaNeul), the chairwoman of the Now Foundation, who faces life-threatening dangers due to an inheritance war surrounding the top 1% of South Korea, and her bodyguard DoYoon (played by Jung JiHoon), who uncovers the secrets of Red Swan. The series is released every Wednesday with two episodes exclusively on Disney+.
Studio&NEW is also set to release the Disney+ original series ‘Tyrant,’ starring Cha SeungWon, Kim SeonHo, Kim KangWoo, and Jo YunSoo. Directed by Park HoonJung, known for ‘New World’ and ‘The Witch,’ the chase action thriller ‘Tyrant’ will premiere on Disney+ with all four episodes dropping simultaneously on August 14.
