Candy Shop Strike A Hot & Cold Pose And Showcase The Healing Power Of Friendship For Their First Comeback With Album “Girls Don’t Cry” | Interview

Candy Shop is a 5-member girl group under Brave Entertainment. The rookie group consists of members SoRam, Yuina, Sui, SaRang, Julia, the group has been receiving praise for their lively energy and pretty youthful visuals.

They debuted in March of this year with the mini album “Hashtag#” and the title track ‘Good Girl’. With their fandom continuously growing, Candy Shop are showing their sweet charms to the world through their music.

To celebrate their first-ever comeback, Kpopmap had the pleasure of speaking to the members about their first-ever comeback experience, their first time performing overseas, the improvements they are making as artists, what they do to cheer themselves up in their daily lives, and more.

 

Candy Shop, welcome to Kpopmap, and congratulations on your first-ever comeback with the 2nd mini album “Girls Don’t Cry”! We can imagine how exciting it is to be experiencing your first comeback. How does it compare to your debut? Could you please share how this experience has been different for you?

During our debut album, everything was new and there were many difficult and challenging moments. However, starting with this album, since we’ve experienced it once before, we feel a bit more relaxed and able to look around more.

Our first comeback feels even more special because we’re doing it with our new member JULIA. We got more used to the process of recording, filming, and monitoring our performances. We were also able to show our improved teamwork.
SARANG
It hasn’t been long since our debut, so I’m really happy that we could make a comeback so quickly! After our debut album promotions, we gained a lot of fans who support us, so we were able to prepare for this comeback with a much stronger sense of confidence.

[FOR JULIA] This will be your first time promoting a release as a member of Candy Shop, congratulations on your debut! Is there anything in particular that you are hoping to show fans through your activities? Which charm do you think you’ll bring to Candy Shop?

During this promotional period, I want to clearly show what kind of charms I have! I’ve joined as the youngest member, and I want to show both my cute, youngest-like side and my confident side!

“Girls Don’t Cry” boasts double title songs with ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘Tumbler (Hot & Cold)’. Can you please share the key points that you’d like fans to pay special attention to for each song?

‘Don’t Cry’ is a song that is meant to give support and provide courage to those who are having a hard time. The refreshing sound combined with hopeful lyrics is the highlight of this track.
SORAM
‘Tumbler (Hot & Cold)’ talks about a love that started hot and gradually became cold. I hope you enjoy my rap parts in this song.

You’ve prefaced this album as the segue into showing your wider musical spectrum. Fans are already anticipating this album’s diverse addition to your discography. Since the genres in the album are quite different, can each member please share which song was their favorite to record and why?

Recording the title track ‘Don’t Cry’ is the most memorable for me. It’s a song with a refreshing summer sound and a message of hope, so we had a lot of fun recording it! Personally, since the vocals are really important in this song, I did a lot of research, and I’m happy with how it turned out!

I’m the main rapper, but I took on a lot of vocal parts in this title track ‘Don’t Cry’! I enjoyed recording it because I could show a new side of myself.

You created quite the buzz with your first overseas performance at the IKONYX 2024 Concert in Bangkok at the end of May. What was it like performing for your overseas fans for the first time?

It was my first time on stage, and it was an honor to perform on such a big stage in front of so many people! The Thai fans were so passionate and cheered me on enthusiastically, which gave me the strength to deliver an even better performance!
JULIA
We debuted not long ago, so it was really exciting and meaningful to share the stage with senior artists who represent K-Pop. We learned a lot by watching their performances, and we were thrilled to see that we have fans in Thailand who support Candy Shop! I hope we can hold a solo concert in Thailand someday.

You released the ‘Don’t Cry’ video on June 7th and the response has been hot (pun intended) so far. It is being described as the perfect summer bop and the members’ visuals have been complimented as giving the perfect refreshing and youthful vibe that makes the song summer-personified. Speaking of personifying summer, please tell fans what the perfect summer day looks like to you.

A perfect summer day is about enjoying a refreshing summer with people who are dear to you. Just like in our music video, spending time at the beach with my members and enjoying summer itself with loved ones is what makes a perfect summer day.

I think traveling to beautiful places with loved ones is the perfect way to spend the summer!

TMI QUESTION: Since “Girls Don’t Cry”, can you please share something you do to boost your mood/make you feel better when you are feeling down?

I like to spend my time watching my favorite TV shows and movies, and organizing my thoughts at home.
SORAM
I enjoy taking walks while listening to my favorite songs.
SARANG
I feel like my mood recovers when I meet friends and have fun laughing together!

Eating sweet desserts helps me boost my mood!
