The first musical offering from ChoCo – a digital album called “ChoCo Takes Hollywood”, containing ten songs featured in their reality show “ChoCo In Hollywood” will be released today (May 25) at noon KST through various online music platforms.
For those who might not know, “ChoCo In Hollywood” is a Mnet M2 reality show following trainees from ChoCo Entertainment – Jake, TJ, Sean , and Anpan, as they undergo a special training curriculum and prepare to become well-rounded artists. In the process, ChoCo1 (the male trainee team consisting of Jake, TJ, and Sean) visited Hollywood, where they worked with a team of industry experts to record music, shoot music videos, learn choreography, and more. New episodes of the show are released every Friday at 7 PM KST, only on the “M2” YouTube channel.
The songs that are featured in the reality show, namely ‘Best Life’, ‘Neon’, ‘Yaaacht’, ‘85 IN’, ‘Lv99’, ‘Timezone’, ‘G.O.A.T’, ‘Lucky Lucky’, ‘Like Ayye’ and ‘Speaker’, will be released as a digital album titled “ChoCo Takes Hollywood”, allowing fans to explore ChoCo’s unique musical philosophy. The digital album unfolds like a youth film, capturing universally resonant messages that touch the heart.
Each song is defined by keywords that resonate with the Alpha Generation, such as ‘dreams and happiness’, ‘bright future’, ‘leisure and relaxation’ , ‘passionate challenges’, ‘growth and energy’, ‘longing and hope’, ‘great goals’, ‘positive energy and luck’, ‘unshakable confidence’, and ‘musical connection’, thus establishing ChoCo’s goal to represent the youth.
‘Best Life’ expresses the excitement of living out one’s dreams. ‘Neon’ is a soft and hopeful house track signifying the importance of teamwork during tough times. ‘Yaaacht’ is a breath of fresh air needed to reinvigorate oneself and find new creative inspiration. ’85 IN’ conveys the thrill of the fast life in Hollywood. ‘Lv99’ uses the metaphor of game levels to indicate a grand goal ahead. ‘Timezone’ is a message to the trainees’ families and an ode to humble beginnings. ‘G.O.A.T’ is a confident declaration of one’s ambitions. ‘Lucky Lucky’ is a reminder that every moment is precious when you’re shining. ‘Like Ayye’ is an anthem to brush off negativity and keep working hard towards one’s dreams. Finally, ‘Speaker’ takes ChoCo back to their roots, where they interact with their “avatars”, revealing a new futuristic worldview and concept. Together, these songs create a map for ChoCo’s future.
What’s more is that, through this digital album, listeners can enjoy a range of musical genres such as electronic pop, epic ballads, dancehall, punk, lo-fi, and band sounds, thus getting a glimpse of ChoCo’s versatility.
Among the songs mentioned above, the music video for ’85 IN’ has already been released.
Despite being trainees, ChoCo1 demonstrated an elevated level of musical understanding and rich emotional expressiveness during the recording process, earning high praise from ChoPD (Head Producer of ChoCo & Founder of ChoCo Entertainment) and star producer Francis Kim (a.k.a Benjamin 55, who has worked with TWICE, NCT DREAM & more), who oversaw the recording and admitted that it exceeded their expectations.
ChoCo’s first digital album, encapsulating the essence of their youthful charm, growth, and ambitious aspirations, will be available for streaming on and from noon (KST) on May 25, 2023.
