Over recent years, K-Pop has evolved from being just a genre of music or idols performing on stage. It has become an international industry which reaches every corner of the globe. K-Pop artists can now be heard on local airwaves with their songs becoming viral hits. This is thanks to social media platforms like TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube.
Now, we live in an age where countless K-Pop fans are growing up, entering college, and looking to enter the workforce. While their love for K-Pop is boundless, there are no surefire ways to take it any further than a dearly beloved hobby.
However, Dr. Chuyun Oh, an Associate of Dance Theory at San Diego State University and author of “K-pop Dance: Fandoming Yourself On Social Media“, looks to help students connect the bridge between passion and career.
K-Pop Certification Process
Dr. Chuyun Oh is set to offer the first K-Pop certificate in the United States. The course looks to aid talented K-Pop fans and cover dancers. This opportunity allows them to transform their long-time hobby into a professional credential.
Classes for certification will be held in CSU Summer Arts, Fresno, California, from July 10-23, 2023. Applications are currently open, with the deadline set for May 22.
Students taking the course will receive various benefits. This includes a direct letter of recommendation to K-Pop agencies for an internship and being hired as a paid research assistant. As a research assistant, students will receive an opportunity to work alongside Dr. Chuyun Oh in South Korea.
