Curious about what kind of makeup and hair styling K-Pop idols get?
We are too. How are they able to look so perfect and amazing?ย Stylists who have worked with K-Pop idols have revealed in the past about how makeup color tones are chosen for individual idols to even also how they deal with pimples or unwanted blemishes on the day before an important photo or movie shoot.
So first things first.
Tone-down makeup. According to stylists, tone-down makeup is used on idols who have extremely bright skin tone, as they may stand out too much in group photos if the proper makeup isn’t applied. And especially for press conferences, as the flashes from the cameras will most likely make the skin tone of the face and neck appear different.
What happens if a pimple or blemishes appear right before an important day?
Well, if it’s a minor whitehead, alcohol is applied and squeezed out. A patch then is applied on to the spot to calm and relieve the area. Then the base makeup is applied. And the important part here is that the patch is still on the face while the base makeup is put on. Then during the last stages of makeup, the patch is removed and BB cream is applied.
Now you might wonder how idols who bleach and dye their hair several times throughout the year still have hair left.
The truth is, idols’ hair actually do go through a lot of damaging process and there actually isn’t much that can be done to prevent long term damage. So how they minimize this is by ensuring that the idols receive hair treatment every time before they get to the bleaching or dyeing process. But it’s not just before this process, as idols are known to receive hair treatment frequently.
How are the hair colors chosen for every comeback?
According to the stylists, it all comes down to the concept and the idol group agency’s intentions. Of course, the stylists too have their own say in hairstyling as well. Some things that are put into consideration before choosing hair color is the color of the MV set, the vibes of the song, and also the outfit that the idols would be wearing.
What’s interesting is that the hair color and concept is actually chosen differently between rookie groups and groups who have been in the scene for a while as well. In the case of rookie groups, the agency has about 80% of the say in the hair styling choice, and the stylist with 20%. For idol groups who have been around longer, the idols have 20% of the say in the matter, the stylist 70%, and the agency has 10%.
Hopefully, idols who want to go for a certain look that they desire will be able to do so more in the future.
