Introduction
Mokin Museum is located in Insa-dong, a popularly visited area for traditional Korean culture and crafts. It is the only local museum specializing in wooden sculptures, uniquely displaying a wide variety of wooden sculptures in a single place. Mokin refers to wooden sculptures carved in shapes of traditional human figures or various animals. The museum holds around 5,000 various wooden folk sculptures including those used to decorate funeral carriages and temples mostly from the Joseon Dynasty up to modern times. These artifacts may be utilized as valuable base resources for learning more about the Korean lifestyles during the relevant eras. The wooden folk sculptures at the Mokin Museum will continue to play an important role in sharing and developing Korea’s cultural heritage.
