5 TREASURE B-Sides To Have In Your Playlist

TREASURE X

On Dec 5, TREASURE released Last Night’ a digital single, that captured the emotions of a romantic night shared between lovers. The pop dance track highlights the group’s bright and youthful side—an aspect well-known to Treasure Makers (their dedicated fans) but less familiar to the general public.

Much like ‘Last Night,’ TREASURE’s discography is filled with lighthearted and fresh songs, offering a contrast to their hip-hop and swagger-filled anthems. A prime example is ‘Darari,’ their viral TikTok hit and a standout b-side from their 2022 album, The Second Step: Chapter One.”

Looking for more bubbly or soulful gems from TREASURE, here are five B-sides you should have on your playlist.

1. Orange

First on the list is ‘Orange,’ a heartfelt ballad produced by Asahi, from the mini album “The First Step: Chapter Three,” which features the title track ‘MMM.’ This song beautifully captures the bittersweet emotions of cherishing time with a loved one while grappling with the sadness of parting. TREASURE creatively uses the recurring imagery of the sunset to symbolize the end of the day and the temporary nature of their time together.

‘Orange’ was co-written by Asahi alongside members HyunSuk, Yoshi, and Haruto. Stories from the members indicate that the song was made in early 2020. Asahi wrote and composed the beat and shared it with Haruto who wrote his lyrics at dawn. In an interview with Naver, Haruto described the beat as so good the lyrics came out naturally.

2. Lovesick

TREASURE serves sad lyrics with an acoustic rhythm on ‘Lovesick,’ the Korean version of their Japanese track, ‘Yamai.’ Another track co-composed by Asahi, was penned entirely by the ‘Orange’ crew, Haruto, HyunSuk, Yoshi, and Asahi. Released in 2023, ‘Lovesick’ is the last track on their second full album, “Reboot.”

‘Lovesick’ was described as a song that makes one feel warm by member JeongWoo. He also stated that it was a perfect mood booster. The members’ pen game shines in ‘Lovesick’ as they capture the constant longing for someone no longer there. With lyrics translated to “A day when you can see the sunset better than usual, the day the seat next to me is lonely and empty,” TREASURE illustrates the contrast between the beauty of the world around them and the inner sadness they feel. Asahi recommends listening to it when one is alone at night while lying in bed.

3. It’s Okay

Next on the list is ‘It’s Okay,’ a song from the album, “The Second Step: Chapter One,” with hits like ‘Jikjin‘ and ‘Darari.’ In addition to being a song made for fans according to JiHoon, it is a favorite of YoungHoon from THE BOYZ.

“The lyrics take a hopeful outlook on negativities like worries and failures,” JiHoon said in an interview. In line with the song’s theme, he assured fans that everything would be okay and encouraged them to get back up again. In the same interview with Weverse Magazine, Yoshi recommended the song saying he hoped fans would listen to it when they are having a tough time. Many fans, in return, have acknowledged that ‘It’s Okay’ is their comfort song.

4. Slowmotion

Up next is the iconic ‘Slowmotion’ which TREASURE sang at their first-ever wedding performance. While congratulating one of YG Entertainment’s in-house producers, the members infused their performance with a playful touch, incorporating the hip-hop slang “skrtt skrtt.”

Despite the hip-hop reference, ‘Slowmotion’ is far from a hip-hop track. The song is a mellow mid-tempo pop track written and composed by AKMU’s Lee ChanHyuk as a gift to his label juniors. One of the standout features of ‘Slowmotion’ is its calm and progressive incorporation of bass and piano. In addition to creating the song, he directed the members during the recording, teaching them a valuable lesson on working together.

5. Hold It In

Last on the list is the HyunSuk-written ‘Hold It In,’ released in 2022 from “The Second Step: Chapter Two” album. The upbeat heartbreak song was inspired by BIGBANG’s Japanese song, ‘My Heaven.’ HyunSuk wrote it with the intention of creating a sad song with happy vibes or vice versa.

According to HyunSuk, he wrote ‘Hold It In’ after YG Treasure Box, the survival show that gave rise to TREASURE. The lyrics delve into the emotional turmoil of a changing relationship, as the members encourage themselves to suppress their feelings. The track is notable for its mid-tempo verses that seamlessly transition into a gentle pop dance chorus.
