ONEUS clinched the second place in “Road To Kingdom: Ace of Ace” recently. In particular, HwanWoong gained lots of attention and compliments from both TO MOON and other fandoms as he took up the ace position in several rounds of the competition and led the group to achieve high rankings.
As the main dancer of ONEUS, HwanWoong is not only known for his top-notch dancing skills, but also his incredible stage presence, diligence, and lovely visual and personality. which made him being adored by many TO MOON around the world. Continue reading to check out 5 reasons why HwanWoong is a perfect idol that deserve your love and support!
1. He is a performance genius
Despite being the tiniest member in ONEUS, HwanWoong’s stage presence is no joke. In “Road To Kingdom: Ace of Ace”, HwanWoong was selected to be the ace at the Ace Stage competition, in which he gave an electrifying dance performance of Joker concept. He demonstrated excellent body control with his sharp and dynamic dance, and his playful facial expression brought out the maniacal image of Joker. The part where he slid down the staircase handrail and rolled on the ground was so captivating. This 90-second performance literally left all the audience and other boy groups in awe.
Not only can HwanWoong do dark concepts, he also slays songs with elegant and sentimental themes. In this performance of the rearranged version of ‘Baila Conmigo’, the choreography before the last chorus was changed to HwanWoong found the female dancer and tried to catch her but in vain. He conveyed the sorrow of the merman prince for being separated from his lover with his powerful yet elegant moves and delicate facial expressions. HwanWoong’s captivating performance proves that he is certainly born to shine on stage.
2. He is a talented dancer and choreographer
As a former Seoul Performing Arts High School (SOPA) student who got the first place among Practical Dance majors for three consecutive years, HwanWoong is a talented dancer who excels in any kind of dance, including girl group dances (fun fact: the first dance genre he learnt after entering SOPA was girls hip hop, apparently that is the reason why he slays girl group dances!). HwanWoong also showed his potential as a choreographer by participating in creating the choreography for several ONEUS’ songs such as ‘Lit’ and ‘A Song Written Easily’, and he even worked as the choreography director for ‘Same Scent’. He also uploads creative choreography and dance cover videos on ONEUS’ official YouTube channel under the name “by_WOONG”. Here is HwanWoong dancing to a new choreography of ‘Baila Conmigo’ made by himself, which gives a different feeling from the original version.
3. He is a hardworking perfectionist
HwanWoong treats every performance very seriously, and he practices really hard to strive for perfection all the time. His diligence is recognized by people around him, and one of the staff from RBW who has been working with him since he was a trainee described him as a “hardworking genius”. After he was eliminated on “Produce 101 Season 2”, he immediately returned to the company and kept practicing until the next day. His passion for performance is truly at a next level.
You can see how HwanWoong gave his best while practicing for the Ace Battle in “Road To Kingdom: Ace of Ace” in this behind-the-scene video as he kept on discussing with the choreographer and experimenting with different movements to deliver a impeccable performance:
Besides constantly polishing his dancing skills, HwanWoong has also been putting lots of effort into working on his vocals. When HwanWoong was undergoing voice mutation during middle school, he was criticized by his friends saying that he wasn’t good at singing. However, he didn’t give up on his dream of becoming a singer. Not only did he join the singing society at school, he also kept on practicing singing at home. All his hard work eventually paid off and he has now transformed into an amazing vocalist. This cover of imase’s ‘NIGHT DANCER’ highlights his soothing and bright vocals.
His live vocal is also very stable:
4. He is a tiny cutie-pie
ONEUS does not have a leader, but HwanWoong always shows his leadership on stage by always leading the team to do greetings and showing a mature image, which makes him appear to be the leader. However, HwanWoong is actually a cutie-pie off-stage. LeeDo once voted HwanWoong to be the cutest member in ONEUS because when he is feeling pressured or nervous he will stare at the person next to him and hold that person’s finger. Isn’t this so baby girl-coded?
HwanWoong is also often being taken care of by the other members. Look how SeoHo babysitted HwanWoong by carrying him on his back downstairs and pushing the swan buoy for him as he happily rides on the buoy on “ONEUS Rest House”. He is truly adored by his hyungs!
Poor HwanWoong is so tiny that his feet could not reach the water, and the tallest member in ONEUS KeonHee laughed so hard at him (this is so mean but funny). And HwanWoong kicking KeonHee before leaving was so cute!
But no matter what, HwanWoong is always TO MOON’s cute baby tiger.
5. He is a “hunnam”
While HwanWoong sometimes gets (friendlily) teased by the other members, he always shows his support to his teammates through his heartwarming “hunnam” (a man who is gentle and caring) actions. A TO MOON asked HwanWoong why he patted SeoHo with his fingers before performing ‘Same Scent’ during “KCON Saudi Arabia”, and he responded that it was because he felt that SeoHo’s heart was beating so fast, so he tried to pat him in order to calm him down.
KeonHee revealed on “Weekly Idol” that HwanWoong is the only member that he can count on when shooting variety shows as while other members don’t really give reactions when he says something, HwanWoong would genuinely respond by clapping while saying “Yeah you’re funny!” He is such a sweet guy!
