4 Times NCT 127 Made International Headlines For Bizarre Reasons

“NCT is always at the crime scene” is a common phrase used by fans of the K-Pop group due to the unexpected and humorous situations they find themselves in. A recent example is the smash hit by NCT 127, ‘Kick It,’ being played mere meters away from a group of fans who had gathered to mourn the passing of One Direction member Liam Payne.

While NCT 127 has made international headlines and gone viral for their music, achievements, charisma, and fashion style, the SM Entertainment group is also known for having their clips, photos, and lyrics used to spam random posts mentioning the number 127.

Beyond these moments, the group has also caught the attention of the press for strange reasons, sometimes spurred by fans. Here are four of those instances.

 

1. Johnny and Mark on FOX 5 San Diego

As part of content to entertain fans during the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Johnny and Mark set up a tent in a room and went indoor camping. This fun video was part of Johnny’s YouTube series, Johnny’s Communication Center (JCC), and was released in April 2020. While camping, they had snacks, played the guitar while singing to Jason Mraz‘s ‘I’m Yours,’ and edited their self-directed movie titled “Freaky Handshake.”

Shortly after the video was released, the NCT members were featured on FOX 5 San Diego. A fan named Ruby had submitted a photo from the camping video for the American television station’s “Keeping Connected” segment.

She claimed that Johnny was her eldest son who had just returned home from college and that Mark, her “younger son,” was thrilled to have him back. Ruby humorously described waking up to find her “sons” camping in the living room, surrounded by snacks.

 

2. Mark on Fox News Arkansas

In May 2020, after his feature with Johnny, Mark found his way into another news segment in the United States, this time on FOX News Arkansas. A fan named Bailey, shared an old birthday photo of Mark Lee, presumably from his pre-debut days. It was featured on the station’s AR: We’re in this Together segment.

She described the photo as taken from the 12th birthday celebration of her son Mark Lee. Adding that he was “upset that he could not share the day with his friends, but they sure did make it work.”

 

3. HaeChan on L’lntégral du Morning de Difool in France

In 2018, before their first-ever tour in France, HaeChan had caught the attention of the hosts of L’Intégral du Morning de Difool in France. The hosts of the radio show on Skyrock had come across HaeChan’s name listed as one of Beyoncé’s children in the American pop star’s Wikipedia.

The hosts pointed out that her real children, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir, had Carter added to their names. However, HaeChan was not referred to as Carter leading the hosts to joke that he was the outcast of the family. They said, “He’s the only one who is not a Carter.”

 

#4 JungWoo on Cada Mañana in Mexico

JungWoo’s face found its way into an unusual demonstration on the Mexican morning show Cada Mañana, aired on Azteca Noreste. The popular Mexican figure, Maritza Moncada, was a guest on the show, where she demonstrated how to create a love spell.

The spell required typical ingredients like cinnamon, honey, a jar, and a photo of the desired person. Moncada used several photos of NCT’s JungWoo as examples for her spell, explaining to the host how it could help bring romance into one’s life.
