XODIAC recently made their highly awaited comeback with the album "XOUL DAY", and to celebrate, we sat down with the boys for a 3-part exclusive interview, diving into their craft, daily lives, aspirations for the future, and more.

Before we get into our XODIAC interview, let us briefly introduce XODIAC to you if you're new to the group. XODIAC is a nine-member boy group (LEX, HYUNSIK, ZAYYAN, BEOMSOO, WAIN, GYUMIN, SING, LEO, DAVIN) under JACSO Entertainment. Members LEX, HYUNSIK, BEOMSOO, GYUMIN, WAIN, and DAVIN are Korean, ZAYYAN is Indonesian, and SING and LEO are Hong Kongese.

The group name "XODIAC" comes from "zodiac" and carries the meaning of finding one's own constellation through one's unique individuality, infinite effort, and enterprising power.

Prior to their debut, XODIAC landed 4 global magazine shoots (Cosmopolitan, ELLE MEN, Harper’s Bazaar, and Men’s Uno from Hong Kong) and won the "Potential New Boy Group" award at the global "Weibo Account Festival", where LEX was presented with the "Fashion Rookie" award as well!

Having already established a significant buzz, XODIAC debuted on April 25, 2023, with the digital single 'Throw A Dice' and, within the span of one year, have managed to grow steadily to the point of increasing their sales by a whopping 1391.31%.

XODIAC also recently reached 162,488 monthly listeners on Spotify, 521K subscribers on YouTube, and 1 million views on the music video for their latest title track, 'HEYDAY'. On Instagram, XODIAC (@xodiacofficial) gained 105,300 followers in the last 30 days, showing their constant growth on a global scale.

That's not all! XODIAC also won the "Universal Hot Focus" award at the 2024 "Universal Superstar Awards", proving their rising popularity as global icons with infinite potential to take Hallyu forward.

After all, XODIAC's ultimate goal is to be known as the group that defined this generation and from what we can see, every day, they are one step closer to this dream.

About XODIAC's "XOUL DAY"

"Xoul Day" is a 3-track single album released on March 14, 2024. Member DaVin is currently on a hiatus, so he did not participate in this comeback.

Wonderfully in line with XODIAC's upcoming 1st anniversary, "XOUL DAY" contains a fan song titled 'HEYDAY', which was also the title track, alongside 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' and 'CREME BRULEE', highlighting the unique strengths of the vocal and rap lines, respectively. The album "XOUL DAY" was preceded by "[XOUL DAY] DRAMA", a three-part campus web-drama unveiling the cinematic universe of XODIAC.

This is not XODIAC's first rodeo when it comes to acting, but it does showcase how much the members have improved in this field too, raising anticipation for the future of XODIAC as all-rounder idols.

I think we usually get together and communicate before the comeback, and then have a meal with the members after the promotions.

On the release day this time, we met with fans to celebrate our comeback.
HYUNSIK
We also created a TikTok challenge to inform fans about the comeback and create a celebratory atmosphere.

We had time to show fans the new song stage and various events.

Your new album “XOUL DAY” has the perfect trio of songs: a fan song ‘HEYDAY’, a vocal line song ‘WONDERFUL TONIGHT’ and a rap line song ‘CREME BRULEE’, to showcase the diverse talents of XODIAC. As a fun way to introduce these songs, can you describe them as ice cream flavors?

'HEYDAY' has a taste that is soft and dreamy like soda, yet it also has a refreshing fizziness that pops intermittently. Shall I say that 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' and 'CREME BRULEE' also have a sour-sweet taste?
LEX
'HEYDAY' can be said to have a refreshing soda flavor, 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' has a warm milk flavor, and 'CREME BRULEE' has a popping mint chocolate flavor.
HYUNSIK
'HEYDAY' is like mint chocolate. It's sweet yet refreshing! Personally, mint chocolate is my favorite flavor, so 'HEYDAY' is also my favorite song. 'CREME BRULEE' is like strawberries. It's sweet yet refreshing. 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' is like mocha to me. It's sweet with a slightly bitter taste. This ballad gives a bittersweet emotion while the lyrics provide sweetness.
ZAYYAN
'HEYDAY' tastes like cotton candy because it's fluffy and cloud-like. 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' tastes like fluffy marshmallow, while 'CREME BRULEE' has a fragrant hazelnut flavor.
BEOMSOO
'HEYDAY' is a fresh apple flavor evoking the morning sunshine, 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' is a coffee flavor reminiscent of the hazy moonlight, and 'CREME BRULEE' is a warm afternoon green tea flavor that completes the day.
WAIN
'HEYDAY' is a wistful yet refreshing song, like sherbet flavors, 'WONDERFUL TONIGHT' has a cozy vanilla taste, and 'CREME BRULEE' is a sweet chocolate flavor.

The musical style of this album is quite different from your previous releases and fans are loving this switch-up, especially as the members’ vocal colors are truly shining with this concept. Do you want to keep trying new styles and concepts in the future? What kinds of genres do you want to try next?

The genre I want to try next is a concept that can showcase the mature aspects we all have, with an ethereal yet sensual and intriguing charm.
LEX
I want to challenge a new style. Next time, I also want to try a sexy concept.
HYUNSIK
I want to try a pop-rock or maybe even a bit of J-rock concept. Or, songs with lots of embellishments like 8-bit also sound very intriguing to me.
ZAYYAN
I want to try a new style every time. Since each member has different strengths, I think we can show various charms every time we showcase a new concept. For the next concept, I want to challenge various genres such as boldness, sexiness, hip-hop, which are opposite to the image we have shown before.
BEOMSOO
I have a desire to try various concepts. The genre I want to try next is to showcase a powerful song with charms opposite to what we have shown so far.
WAIN
I want to continue trying out new styles and concepts in the future, and I also want to challenge songs with a bit more charisma or a hip vibe.
GYUMIN
I want to explore new and diverse styles. The style I'm most eager to try is a sexy concept.
SING
The style I'm most eager to challenge is a mature yet sexy atmosphere. Since I haven't tried this style yet, I would like to give it a try if the opportunity arises.
LEO

Watching your performances of 'HEYDAY' on music shows, it's remarkable how you are replicating the refreshing and satisfying feeling of the music video on stage. You’re proving that idols are also actors when they get on stage. We’re curious to know which member you think changes the most when they get on stage.

I think it's BEOMSOO. BEOMSOO may be a bit mischievous in everyday life, but on stage, his distinctive features stand out, and they seem to be well-captured by the camera.
LEX
I think it's LEO. LEO is usually cute and has a lot of aegyo, but when he gets on stage, his unique charisma shines through..
HYUNSIK
I think it’s me ^^. I think I’m quite good at following the vibe of the music! So I choose myself.
ZAYYAN
It seems like each member's personality is reflected on stage.
BEOMSOO
I think it's LEO. He often shows his maknae side in daily life, but on stage, he presents a professional image that suits the mood of the song.
WAIN
I think it's me. Whenever I step on stage, I strive to become the protagonist of the song's lyrics and express the message I want to convey through the stage.
GYUMIN
ZAYYAN is very gentle behind the stage, but when he gets on stage, his eyes change.
SING
ZAYYAN has a very cute and innocent style, but his gaze and vibe on stage completely transform him into a different person.

XODIAC on X

As idols, I’m sure you often have hectic schedules. How do you manage to stay physically and mentally energized during your music show promotions, ensuring that each performance is as vibrant as the last?

I often imagine myself standing on stage while practicing in the rehearsal room. I find that these rehearsals are very helpful when I actually perform on stage.
LEX
I listen to a lot of music to keep my mind occupied. I also gain energy by chatting with fans and communicating with them.
HYUNSIK
I manage my sleep time very well and can spend the day with energy. And when I get on stage, that kind of tension naturally comes out.
ZAYYAN
I gain energy through the stage.
BEOMSOO
I maintain my basic physical fitness by exercising regularly. Additionally, I gain energy through spending time with fans.
WAIN
I prioritize replenishing my energy and managing my condition by catching up on sleep whenever possible. Meeting fans always naturally fills me with energy.
GYUMIN
I am a very positive person. As a result, I am mentally optimistic, and since I exercise regularly, I tend to have quite a bit of energy.
SING
I replenish my energy through exercise and adequate rest, and on days with no schedule, I find that sleeping all day is the best. ^^

For those who might not know, XODIAC is a multinational group with six Korean members (LEX, HYUNSIK, BEOMSOO, GYUMIN, WAIN, and DAVIN), one Indonesian member (ZAYYAN), and two Hong Kongese members (SING and LEO).

The XODIAC members live together in a dorm, as most idol groups do. So, you can imagine how the dorm must be bustling with rich cultural and language exchange! After all, everyone has something to learn from each other and that's what brings them closer!

In part 2 of our interview, the XODIAC members spoke about each other's fashion and style. In this part, the XODIAC members open up on learning about each other's cultures, helping the foreign members with Korean, and more!

XODIAC Interview - Part 3

One advantage of being a large group is that with so many members in XODIAC, there are many birthdays to celebrate! Recently, member LEX celebrated his birthday (Happy Birthday, LEX!) and XODIAC even did a live streaming for fans despite your busy schedule. How did the members celebrate LEX’s birthday personally?

This birthday coincided with our comeback activities, so spending it with our fans, X-BLISS, felt incredibly joyful and special.
LEX
Every birthday, we have a meal together with the members and celebrate with fans through YouTube live.
HYUNSIK
We usually do live stream on YouTube and order food to eat together!
ZAYYAN
We do a live with fans to celebrate each member's birthday. Spending time with fans at the fan sign event on LEX's birthday was also meaningful.
BEOMSOO
On LEX's birthday, we celebrated together with fans at the fan sign event, making the birthday even more meaningful.
WAIN
At midnight on LEX's birthday, we congratulated him and gave him gifts. We do the same for each member's birthday, celebrating and doing a live broadcast.
GYUMIN
I usually send a message saying 'happy birthday bro' to the member on their birthday. I have a bit of a cool style, you know. I also join in on the live broadcasts for their birthdays.
SING
For LEX's birthday this time, I was the first one among the members to congratulate him. On other members' birthdays, we all join together to celebrate.
LEO

We’ve heard that the foreign XODIAC members have fallen in love with Korean food. Have the Korean members fallen in love with Indonesian and Hong Kong cuisine?

I love spicy food, so when I went to Hong Kong, I tried the spicy crab dish recommended by the members. I also enjoy seafood, so perhaps that's why I found it incredibly delicious.
LEX
I do enjoy Korean cuisine, but I also want to challenge myself to try various Indonesian and Hong Kong dishes.
HYUNSIK
I’m the type to eat anything well, so I enjoyed Indonesian and Hong Kong food deliciously.
BEOMSOO
Through foreign members, I am getting to know and experience Indonesian and Hong Kong cuisine, gradually learning about their flavors.
WAIN
I am somewhat sensitive to smells, so I haven't found my favorite dish yet. However, I think as I travel abroad more, I'll be able to find foods that suit my taste.
GYUMIN

XODIAC on X

[For ZAYYAN, SING & LEO] If you had to recommend a TV show or film from your home region to the other XODIAC members, what would it be?

The Indonesian movie I like is "Pengabdi Setan" ("Satan's Slaves"). For those who enjoy thriller movies, this film would be a great choice.
ZAYYAN
We enjoy Stephen Chow's comedy and action series. These are works that can represent Hong Kong to some extent. I hope the members also like these works.
SING, LEO

You mentioned in a previous interview that the members all bonded over their shared love for fans despite the language barrier. However, were there ever any funny misunderstandings because of this language barrier?

Sometimes, rather than misunderstanding, there are occasions where my foreign language pronunciation causes laughter.
LEX
It seems like there's no misunderstanding with fans because regardless of language, just by looking into each other's eyes, we can communicate.
HYUNSIK
Rather than misunderstandings, I burst out laughing at the eye contact and playful looks.
BEOMSOO
I'm just thankful that my foreign fans find it fun and cute to see me speaking foreign languages.
WAIN
LEO has a good pronunciation in Korean, but when it comes to English pronunciation, it tends to sound very English-like, which sometimes makes it difficult to understand all at once, causing laughter a few times.
GYUMIN

From your latest comeback and your music drama “[XOUL DAY] DRAMA”, we can see that the foreign XODIAC members’ Korean has improved a lot! How did you achieve this? Did the Korean members help a lot?

Actually, even though we spend all day together, it seems like every time we have a conversation, we all naturally try to speak in Korean. As we continue to converse in Korean, it seems that the foreign members' Korean language skills have improved significantly as well.
LEX
When ZAYYAN asks about pronunciation, I help by providing a demonstration of the dialogue directly.
HYUNSIK
Since I'm always with the members, my Korean language skills are improving little by little!
ZAYYAN
We're practicing pronunciation together. For difficult pronunciations, the Korean members repeatedly helped out.
BEOMSOO
I put a lot of effort into helping the foreign members because the dialogue was in Korean.
WAIN
The foreign members asked the Korean members a lot, and the Korean members listened to the pronunciation several times and the foreign members practiced by listening and memorizing it, and they improved a lot.
GYUMIN
I talk a lot with the members and watch many Korean dramas! When I'm with foreign members, I try to use Korean as much as possible.
SING
Whenever I stay in the same lodging as GYUMIN, we talk together every day, and as we continue to converse, my skills have improved.
LEO

For those who might not know, XODIAC's music career has been closely intertwined with fashion and acting from the very beginning. Member LEX won the "Fashion Rookie" award at the global "Weibo Account Festival" even before his debut, and XODIAC, as a group, bagged several major magazine shoots as a pre-debut group.

Not only that, but XODIAC attended the 2024 Seoul Fashion Week, and members LEO, LEX, and SING also attended the EMPORIO ARMANI FW24 show at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year!

This naturally brought about and solidified the title of "fashion-dols" for XODIAC as the group was recognized for their knack for fashion and growing influence in the same. Now, XODIAC is landing brand collaborations with some of the world's most renowned luxury fashion houses like Versace, Moschino, Shanghai Tang, and Emporio Armani.

Next, let's come to their acting experience! Upon debut, XODIAC released their first-ever web drama MV series titled "Roommate", with three episodes. Later, member LEX also appeared in the web drama "Mokkoji Kitchen 2023", impressing fans with his acting skills despite being a rookie idol.

Now, for their latest comeback with "XOUL DAY", XODIAC has once again released a web drama called “[XOUL DAY] DRAMA” that, fans have noticed, connects the story from "Roommate" to the present timeline, expanding XODIAC's universe.

If each of you had to pick one K-Drama genre you want to appear in, what would it be? Also, are you watching any K-Dramas or TV shows these days?

I am very interested in acting too. I want to try acting in that high-teen genre (with emotions) that can only be felt in school days. I want to feel those emotions and nostalgia again.
LEX
If given the opportunity, I would like to challenge myself in acting. These days, the drama I enjoy watching is “Death’s Game”.
HYUNSIK
I used to do musicals in Indonesia in the past. In the future, if given the opportunity, I would also like to try acting in dramas.
ZAYYAN
I really want to act if the opportunity arises. Recently, I rewatched the drama “Our Beloved Summer”.
BEOMSOO
Having learned acting during my student days, I have always had a passion for it, and if given the chance, I definitely want to challenge myself in acting.
WAIN
Acting is enjoyable, but still challenging. My favorite K-Drama genres are comedy and mystery.
GYUMIN
If given the opportunity to act, I would like to take on the role of the protagonist in a school drama. ^^
SING
I have always been interested in acting, and in the future, if given the opportunity, I would like to try genres such as campus dramas or action martial arts.

Through open-ended conclusions, I hope many people can anticipate and imagine how our universe could expand. I would be grateful for that.

I believe endings can be perceived differently depending on the individual's perspective. While I'm not sure if there will be new episodes, I hope you look forward to the possibility.
HYUNSIK
Perhaps! We always give our fans amazing surprises. Everyone, just wait. Hehe.

Although we're not certain if there will be new episodes, even if not, we'll bring you other content to enjoy, so please look forward to it!

Whether our universe will expand further is uncertain, but we will always show our best efforts.

Speaking of all-rounder idols, XODIAC is also making moves in the fashion industry and has even earned the title of “Fashion-dols”. How would you describe the fashion style of the member next to you?

I envy HYUNSIK's ability to pick out hats. I love hats, and the ones HYUNSIK picks out are always my style. I think I wear the hat I received as a birthday gift from HYUNSIK a lot because I like it so much.

ZAYYAN’s fashion style has many cute points, making it lovely.
HYUNSIK
WAIN's fashion style seems to accentuate individuality well. He understands his own body type well and seems to know what fashion suits him rather than just following trends.
BEOMSOO
GYUMIN's fashion style perfectly embodies the so-called 'boyfriend look', knowing well what suits him.
WAIN
Since SING has a large physique, it seems like he mostly wears loose and comfortable clothes.
GYUMIN
LEO’s fashion style seems to embody a trendy and cool 'boyfriend' concept.

Is there a member whose wardrobe you are envious of?

It seems like everyone has various styles of clothes, so it would be nice to share them^^.

There are times when I envy LEX because he has various types of clothes.
HYUNSIK
LEO’s clothes! They're really cool! There are some clothes that I envy a little, so I feel like I want to have them.^^

LEO has clothes in various styles.

BEOMSOO
I think it's trendy to identify your own style that suits you rather than following trends, and styling yourself to express your personality.

I tend to prioritize clothes that don't (make me) look overly dressed up. I like comfortable clothes.

What is your goal as a fashion-dol? XODIAC members have already been to Seoul and Milan Fashion Week. What’s next?

I have many activities planned in the fashion field in the future, so I would be grateful if you could look forward to and support me.
LEX
I want to participate in Fashion Week again if I have the opportunity.
HYUNSIK
I want to go to Fashion Week again. I attended Seoul Fashion Week before, so I want to participate again! Also, I want to participate in Fashion Weeks in other countries.
